MasterCard Worldwide Index of Retail
Introduction
MasterIndex of Retail provides short-term (six month) forecasts of retail sales growth in 12 key Asia/Pacific markets. The forecasting is done twice a year - once in the beginning of the year to forecast the first half of the year, and again in July to forecast the second half of the year. As such, the MasterIndex of Retail provides powerful predictive market intelligence that is highly relevant not only to the whole and retail industry, but to sectors such as entertainment, food and beverage, the hospitality and leisure industry, as well as consumer goods manufacturing. This predictive market intelligence is particularly valuable in today's increasingly uncertain economic and business environment.
The analytic foundation of MasterIndex of Retail is based on the development of a set of analytic techniques that have successfully linked MasterCard's MasterIndex of Consumer Confidence with retail sales statistics. The survey findings of the MasterIndex of Consumer Confidence are used as leading indicator of how the consumer may act in terms of spending in the retail market over a time horizon of the coming six months. Thus, a linkage is made between consumer sentiments and actual consumer behavior.
